Air defense: France and Turkey join forces
Turkish (Turkey) and French Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Emmanuel Macron discussed the implementation of the SAMP-T air defense systems joint production project on Saturday, says a message posted on the Turkish leader’s administration’s Twitter page. . “President Erdogan has come out in favor of implementing the project based on the principle of full openness,” the text reads.
Turkish authorities have previously said they expect to soon sign an agreement with Italy and France on the production of the system. The possibility of a project in Turkey is not excluded. The European Eurosam consortium is the developer and manufacturer of SAMP-T anti-aircraft missile systems. The system is designed for the circular protection of objects on the ground from a massive air attack, taking into account the possibility of the use of drones by the enemy and the creation of radio-electronic interference.
The basic version of the SAMP-T is a ground defense system that uses a two-stage rocket with an active radar guidance warhead capable of hitting targets at low altitudes and on an aeroballistic trajectory. The maximum range of defeat is up to 120 km, the altitude varies from 50 meters to 20 km.
